Nathan Wales Is Lecturer in Ancient DNA in BioArCh, at the Department of Archaeology, University of York, whose research focuses on the history of crops and their domestication by humans. By recovering DNA from archaeological seeds and other plant remains, we can analyse genetic signals to understand how past crops are related to one another and to modern varieties. In addition, we try to understand how human selection and adaptation impacted crops over time. Through these approaches, we can achieve a new understanding of crop management and agricultural practices in the past. Nathan will be leading on the genetic aspects of MEDGREENREV including the analysis of ancient DNA of domestic animals and plants, including sedimentary DNA.
