Cristina Martínez Álvarez holds a PhD in Archaeology (2025) from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She specializes in ceramic technology, production systems, and exchange networks, integrating traditional ceramic studies with new archaeometric techniques such as thin-section petrography and the analysis of glazed wares using SEM-EDS.

She has over a decade of experience in survey, excavation management, and laboratory work, participating in multidisciplinary teams at both national and international levels. Her research combines archaeometry and spatial analysis to refine chronologies, trace the production–distribution–consumption chain from workshops to households, and explain technological change and its social drivers. Through this, she provides transferable protocols and a material reading of processes such as cultural Islamization and the articulation between urban and rural worlds.
