Graduated in Art History (Complutense University of Madrid) and Master in Archaeology (University of Granada), Yaiza Hernández Casas is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Medieval History and Historiographical Sciences at the University of Granada, where she developed her doctoral thesis ‘Arqueometalurgia de la Iberia Medieval: recursos, cadenas operativas y artesanado del metal en las sociedades feudales’ with an FPU Plan Propio predoctoral contract.

Her research focuses on the study of metallurgical production in the Middle Ages from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining written sources, material culture and archaeometric analysis. Thus, she explores the identity and agency of metal craftsmen in the Middle Ages and delves into questions such as the origin and distribution of raw materials, alloying practices, manufacturing techniques, standardisation of production and the modes of transmission of specialised knowledge in societies such as the feudal one.

At the same time, he has participated in numerous archaeological prospecting and excavation projects at medieval sites in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Italy. He is also involved in various research projects related to 3D digitisation and the archaeology of the Military Orders and warfare, one of his emerging lines of research, mainly through medieval weaponry.
