Dominik Fleitmann

Universität Basel

Dominik Fleitmann is Professor in Quaternary Geology at the University of Basel, Switzerland. He is working on a variety of climate archives, including speleothems (stalagmites, flowstones), lacustrine sediments and spring carbonates from Europe and  SW-Asia.

One primary goal of his research is to develop precisely-dated and highly-resolved time series that provide new insights into climatic and environmental processes over a variety of geologic timescales, ranging from seasonal to glacial/interglacial cycles. Furthermore, he also investigates potential climate-human relationships in SW-Asia, with a strong focus on droughts. It is therefore not surprising that his research covers a wide range of topics from paleoclimate, geochemistry, hydrology, biology, meteorology to archaeology and climate modelling.
