Rowena Banerjea (Archaeology PhD) is a Research Associate in the Department of Archaeology, University of Reading (UK), where she manages the Microanalysis Preparation Unit (MPU). She specialises in geoarchaeology using techniques such as thin-section micromorphology, phytolith analysis, and geochemistry, to interpret the diachronic and spatial development of archaeological sites and the use of their hinterlands. Her most recent research focuses on issues of conquest, conflict, colonisation, and acculturation in European frontier landscapes which include working on projects in Spain and France, and in the Baltic States, as well as collaborating with colleagues working on Islamic Archaeology in Tunisia and Morocco. She directed the research project “All Along the Watchtowers! Balancing Heritage Protection, Development, and Scientific Research on Buried Archaeology at European Castles.”
