Luca Mattei

Luca Mattei (Medieval History PhD) is a Postdoctoral Researcher contract at the University of Granada (Spain) as director of the national project “Christian Dimmies in southern al-Andalus: identity and peasant agency from an archaeological perspective”.

His areas of specialization are Medieval History and Archaeology and al-Andalus Archaeology. He is also currently director of the archaeological project in the Atienza castle and Villa and in the archaeological project in the Tózar Mozarabic medieval village.

He has visited PHD stay at the University of Reading, University of Cambridge and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has a wide experience of fieldwork and research, having directed numerous excavations and participated in various international archaeological projects (Sultanate of Oman, Mexico, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom and Poland). He has focused his lines of research on Territorial Analysis, Landscape and Archaeology of Architecture, and recently also carry out a new line on the identities of rural Christian communities.
