Bilal Sarr-Marroco

Associate Professor at the University of Granada. His research revolves around three thematic axes: the History and Archaeology of al-Andalus, Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa.  His publications include: the book co-edition of Arabización, islamización y resistencias en al-Andalus y el Magreb, the coordination of the catalogue La Granada zirí y el universo beréber, awā’if. Historia y Arqueología de los reinos de taifas, and Alborán. Poblamiento e intercambios en las zonas costeras de al-Andalus y Magreb. He is the author of the monographs: El poblamiento beréber en la frontera superior andalusí (2014) and La Granada zirí (1013-1090) (2011), and he has also published numerous works in different publishing houses and prestigious magazines.

He has directed different projects, such as the R+D "Pimalboran", in which he has studied the coastal archaeological sites of the Rif and eastern Andalusia, the Bilād al-Sūdān and its interactions with the Maghreb and al-Andalus, the two projects IACAM 2022 and 2024 of the Ministry of Culture for the research and archaeological study of the Portuguese rural site of Cercas das Alcarias in Mesquita (Mértola, Portugal). He is currently directing the R&D&I of the Ministry of Innovation and Science entitled Maqbara. Arabization, Islamization and resistances from the cemetery spaces of SE al-Andalus.
