Doctor from the University of Granada, he completed his training at the University of Siena and at the «González Martí» National Ceramic Museum in Valencia. He has been a professor at the Department of Medieval History and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques at the University of Granada since 2003. He has done stays at the Ca' Foscari Universities of Venice (Italy) and Durham (United Kingdom). He is the Lead Researcher of the Research Group “Producción, Intercambio y Materialidad” PRINMA (HUM-1035) and partner of the Spin-Off company UGR “Archaeología y Patrimonio”.
His works are focused on the Archeology of the end of al-Andalus, in several of its aspects: late medieval and early modern ceramics, its production, consumption, distribution and trade, rural settlements in the southeast between the 12th-15th centuries, the Nasrid border fortifications and the urban area of the Nasrid kingdom, especially studying the case of Granada and the palatine city of the Alhambra.
Currently, he coordinates and directs programmed archaeological research projects in the medieval city of Bayra (Vera, Almería), in the border fortresses of Teba (Málaga) and Montefrío (Granada). At the same time, he participates and directs research projects on ceramic production in the southeast in the final stage of al-Andalus and after the conquest of Castilian (CEGRAM and ALDESAL) and is a guarantor researcher of the Unit of Excellence “Ciencia en la Alhambra”.
