Guillermo García-Contreras Ruiz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medieval History and Historiographical Sciences and Techniques at the University of Granada. He earned his Bachelor's degree in History in 2007, followed by a Master's in Archaeology and Territory in 2009. In 2013, he completed his Ph.D. in Medievalism, receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2017.
His research interests focus on the characteristics, structures, and dynamics of various types of medieval settlements in the Iberian Peninsula, particularly their relationship with ecosystem management and the exploitation of natural resources.
He has developed a methodology that involves analysing material traces in current landscapes and existing references in written documentation to understand past dynamics, where the interests and needs of conflicting agents intersected. In essence, it involves implementing analyses of historical landscapes, akin to Landscape Archaeology. It encompasses Islamic Archaeology, as well as Feudal Archaeology.
