Nivar is located on Cerro del Castillejo (Granada, Spain), colloquially known as 'La Peña de Bartolo’. The archaeological site reveals traces of human settlement predating the Mozarabic period, dating back to at least the 6th century.
Unearthed features include Christian burials. Noteworthy are remnants of the ancient fortress, transitioning from late antiquity to Mozarabic Christian occupation, alongside intriguing rock formations. Below the peak, offering a panoramic view of the Vega, lies an early medieval site.
By the 12th century, the site was abandoned, with the population relocating, possibly in response to increased importance in irrigation agriculture, marking Nivar's dynamic historical evolution.
