Lorca Castle served as the citadel of the Islamic city of Lorca (Murcia, Spain) between the 8th and 13th centuries. In addition, in the 14th and 15th centuries it housed a complete Jewish quarter, in which the University of Murcia has been carrying out archaeological excavations since 2009. These works have brought to light 16 houses, a craft area and a synagogue.

Their study has provided us with the opportunity to delve deeper into the central question of the archaeological markers that allow us to identify Jewish communities in late medieval archaeological contexts and the relationship of these populations with their natural environment.
